My mom and I had dinner last night at the T.G.I. Friday’s off Slaughter Lane near the hospital.  Next to our table, admist all the franchise restaurant kitsch, was a quote on the wallpaper from William Allen White:

“I am not afraid of tomorrow,
for I have seen yesterday and I love today.”

read your story about Real Price of Cuts about Chris Giles and have a couple of questions you and his family may want to research.

    1. Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services program was funded through court fines and etc and was not related to normal regular state general funds. Unless the state legislative body has passed a new law to direct those funds to another program those funds should be available for current clients in CRS program and as those individuals cases are closed other clients on the waiting list should be added as the law indicates. The waiting list should continue as normal and Chris should maintain his current position on that list.

    2. The story indicate Chris had insurance but his rehabilitation benefit ran out in October. If he still has his health insurance what is his benefit year? (Example: January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009 or October 1, 2009 through September 30, 20010). Most insurance companies, hospitals or even the Texas State rehab staff do not know that the services under most current insurance policies start again each benefit year. You may want to research this and discuss it with his family. Insurance company staff are not trained or allowed to tell clients or family about these conditions. Insurance companies hold the information back because individuals are considered responsible to know thier benefits.

This information is provided to help Chris and others if they are3 not aware of the examples. I suggest you and they research these items before applying for them or discussing them with DRS or the insurance company. The CRS program law may have been change or the insurance company may have changed there benefit year laws.

I hope that Chris gets help as so many have from the State Rehabilitation programs and many do from thier insurance, but we all need to share information that others may not be aware exist.

Please share this with his family.
