house in Alabama.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back through photos of Nuala &#8211; and her mother, Molly &#8211; reminds me of much happier times.<\/p>\n<p>The more recent photos are also a reminder of the struggle that has been the last three and a half years.<\/p>\n<p>I can remember picking the dogs up at the kennel in Alabama with my dad a week or two after the motorcycle accident. \u00a0Molly and Nuala were thrilled to see us, their wagging tails lifting my spirits momentarily until the gut wrenching pain and realization of the true circumstances returned. \u00a0The fifteen hour drive back to San Antonio. \u00a0The month in Chris&#8217;s apartment, our command post of sorts while he was in the STICU at University Hospital. \u00a0Packing Chris&#8217;s entire adult life into boxes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20111010155413.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1138\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"20111010155413\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20111010155413-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20111010155413-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20111010155413.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The shady RV park in south Austin, where my parents lived for several months while Chris was at Texas NeuroRehab. \u00a0Having the dogs at my apartment in north Austin, while Chris was at the nursing home. \u00a0Back to San Antonio, again in an apartment, near HealthSouth RIOSA.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20110530183214.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1145 alignright\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"20110530183214\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20110530183214-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Losing Molly. \u00a0And Nuala spending weeks looking for her mom. \u00a0Closing out the RIOSA chapter, and the return to Alabama.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20130107122937.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1139\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"20130107122937\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20130107122937-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20130107122937-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/20130107122937.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>New hope, the trip to TIRR in Houston, <em>Nuala always along for the ride. \u00a0<\/em>This time in an RV park near the medical center.<\/p>\n<p>Molly and Nuala were kind of a connection to the past, and a connection to how things were before the accident. \u00a0Taking them out for walks, in all these unfamiliar places, was head-clearing and therapeutic: \u00a0much more for my benefit than theirs.<\/p>\n<p>I brought Chris&#8217;s wheelchair down to where my folks buried Nuala, along with Molly&#8217;s ashes from San Antonio. \u00a0I could swear I saw a tear welling up in one of Chris&#8217;s eyes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1137\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1137\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1137\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"20131020155913\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/201310201559131.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/201310201559131.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.chrisgiles.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/201310201559131-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1137\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1998 &#8211;
